Making music to end sex-trafficking

We're The Music Room, an indie folk band bent on using music to bring justice to the world. Sound too dramatic? You're right, it's dramatic and lofty, but what's crazy is that it's actually happening.

Click HERE to visit our fundraising site to contribute!

Aimee and I (Dane) are using our Music Room songs, and any funds that they generate, to support the non-profit Courage to Be You as they fight the sex-trafficking of minors in Northern California and beyond. We partnered with them about two years ago and have been inspired to use art, lyrics and music to fight injustice with them ever since.
One of our songs, Cost of Believing, made it on a compilation album they released in 2009 to raise funds for their first Courage House-a home built to rehabilitate girls rescued from sex-trafficking. We began playing benefit concerts with them and other artists from Northern California to shed a light on the injustice of sex-trafficking as well as to encourage people to do something about it. In so doing, we've been compelled to do more ourselves.
If we're able to fundraise the cost of production, recording and packaging for our next full length album we'll be able to donate all money made from the new album to Courage to Be You directly. Aimee and I have decided to ask you for financial support in recording our album "Wolves Without Teeth." You'd be partnering with us as we continue partnering with Courage to Be You. Together, we'd be doing our part to stop human-trafficking in our backyards.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 to record the new album. That's a lot of money that we don't have right now, but we trust that God will provide through people like yourselves:)

We wish to be entirely transparent throughout this entire process and encourage your questions, critiques and comments during this fundraising drive.
We love music and all that it can do for a human soul. We're blessed to be able to write it and record it. Even more exciting than recording for the purpose of sharing the music itself is the idea that whatever income it generates can be donated to protect human souls in a practical way. We want our music to speak to the soul while also being an instrument of justice to protect the soul.
Right now, this idea is a simple concept with incredible potential. We've set the recording date with our producer and the studio time is booked, but it's not going to happen without your assistance. Please help us!

Concerts and missions can stop human-trafficking

Dear People,

We've been so blessed to partner with Courage To Be You in their mission to end sex-trafficking here in Northern California and beyond. We talk about them a lot because they're legit in what they do and what they do is legitimately needing to get done. I'm not here to talk about them right now though.

I wanted to tell you about something else that is legitimately sweet. Our mandy-lion (mandolin player) Kyle Booterbaugh is married to a woman who wants to tackle the injustice of sex-trafficking head on. She's heading to Cambodia next month to kick injustice in the rear and rescue girls from a life of sex slavery. We think she's an awesome warrior woman for doing this.

Her name is Colette and you can read all the details of her upcoming mission by visiting her website HERE.

We want to help send Colette to Cambodia to do this difficult work so we're playing a show to support her before she leaves.

The concert will take place at Origin Coffee and Tea (also a legitimate justice-seeking establishment) on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7pm. If you show up and buy a cup of coffee you'll already be taking part in stopping sex-trafficking by way of funding International Justice Mission as they work in India. If you support Colette you'll be directly funding hands and feet that are reaching and traveling to help these girls in Cambodia. And if you listen to us play we'll wink at you and say, "hey, thanks for listening."

It's not so much about us. We're just the band. It's about ending injustice and playing songs for freedom.

Word to your moms,
Dane (the male portion of The Music Room)

Concert 4 Courage this Saturday!

Concert 4 Courage will feature local bands The Reel, Method Echo, The Music Room and Crimson Sky. Other performances will include music by Megan and Ryan (Erin District), Cyndi Maslov, Ali K, Blue Onion Sextet, and Jaxx.

In addition, there will be BBQ, refreshments, and a bounce house for children.

The proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to Courage to Be You, Inc. (C2BU), a non-profit
organization that is building Courage Houses - homes for minors rescued out of sex trafficking.

Of the 200 girls rescued in the Sacramento area, nearly all of them have no home, no family, and no services to support them. These young female victims are either returned to group homes, from where they will run back into the arms of the men who use them for profit; or they are placed in Juvenile Hall, where they are safe, but incarcerated. Children are being sold for sex
in every city in every country around the world. The vision and passion of C2BU is to open Courage Houses so that recovered victims will have a safe place to belong and are able to begin the journey of restoration and transformation.

Cost of Believing

Hi guys and gals,

We wanted to share this song with you. Many of you may not have heard this track because it was one that we've donated to a compilation CD titled "Believe in Me." This song, and the compilation CD in its entirety, generates profits that go directly to the cause of building rehabilitation homes for girls rescued out of sex-trafficking. Go buy the song on iTunes and take up the fight against this modern day slavery.

Peace and Love,
The Music Room

News Update!

Though we haven't been playing many concerts since December, the spring time is beginning to pick up with some gigs, interviews, appearances and overall goodness.

Below is a tidy list of important dates in the life of The Music Room and a brief description of why we're thinking they're important:)
-----------------------------------------------------
February 13: Courage To Be You Concert in Natomas, CA.
We've had the privilege of partnering our music with a non-profit called Courage to Be You at a number of benefit concerts that they put on for the purpose of raising awareness and funds to stop, fight, and prevent sex-trafficking in the U.S. They produced our song "Cost of Believing" which is available for download on iTunes now! Just click "here" to download it.

February 16: Auburn Community TV Interview.
To be completely honest, I don't know exactly what this interview or show will entail. We're going to be interviewed by Radio and TV show host Renee Berg about our music and our involvement in Courage to Be You. We'll let you know what happens:) Last time I (Dane) was on TV it was when I was four years old and I didn't quite have the "it" swagger to push me towards any form of celebrity. It's time to redeem my 15 minutes of fame. Yay for community television!

February 18: Courage to Be You Concert in Auburn, CA.

February 25: Courage to Be You Concert in Stockton, CA.

March 2: Courage to Be You Concert in Redding, CA.

March 5: EP Release Show at Origin Coffee & Tea, Rocklin, CA.
This night is incredibly special for three reasons:
1) We'll be sharing the night with our good friend and incredible singer/songwriter Grayson Kessenich.
2) We're playing at this brand new volunteer-driven, coffee-and-tea-serving, human-trafficking halting, awareness-raising non-profit who gives all their income towards the efforts of eradicating sex-trafficking from the face of the planet. Now that's worth so much more than a latte!
3) We'll be making our brand new EP "Live While You're Alive" available for purchase, of which a percentage of each sale will be donated directly to Origin's mission. BAM! We hope to see you there:)

March 17: Concert at Bayside Cafe, Granite Bay, CA.
We'll be performing in an intimate, coffee shop style atmosphere where Q&A time is always welcome. If you fail to ask any questions, we'll ask ourselves questions from a prefabricated list of interesting questions for bands from interestingquestionsforbands.com.

March 25: Live in KDVS Studios, Davis, CA.
We've been getting some radio play down in Davis since we released our first album "Lesser Loves." Now we're going into the studio to perform an acoustic set live on the air with host Adam Thompson. We'll post up the streaming audio from the broadcast if you miss it live.
-----------------------------------------------

That's enough for now. If you're interested in more specifics about any of the Courage to Be You events, click here.

Last, but certainly not least, we'll have the new EP up on iTunes any day now. Friend us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter (links provided on right hand side of screen) to be informed when this happens.

Much love and much peace,
The Music Room
